Vertical Stabilizer

I started with the VS per the recommendations of a few builders. It is much easier to build than the HS, and thus less mistakes to make on the learning curve. I have still made my share of mistakes (getting good at drilling out rivets, etc.), but so far I haven't damaged anything beyond repair....yet.

VS Assembled (pre-punched kits go together quickly)

This allowed me to match drill all the holes between the skin and spar/ribs.

Rear Spar

You can see the progress of this spar being built, including dimpling and countersinking the lower portions for the area that is next to the fuselage (at least eventually).

Front Spar and Ribs

Van's has a new technique to build the VS. I will rivet the skin on this part of the skeleton first, and then add the rear spar later.

Left: I've got the front spar, ribs and skin clecoed together.
Right: Internal rivets have been set and are complete.

VS Complete

It took 30.5 hrs, but I learned a lot and I'm ready to continue working on the HS.
